Skunk Removal

Humane Skunk Removal for West Kootenay Homes

Skunks commonly take shelter beneath decks, sheds, porches, and other structures where they can safely den.

Our goal is to remove skunks humanely while identifying and securing the areas that allowed them access, helping reduce the likelihood of future problems.

Our Approach

Every property is different.

We begin by confirming where the skunk is denning and assessing the safest, most appropriate removal method. Once the skunk has left, we can recommend or complete exclusion work to help prevent another animal from moving into the same space.

Skunk Denning Season

From approximately April through September, female skunks may be raising kits beneath homes and other structures.

During this time, humane removal options may be limited because separating a mother from her young can leave dependent kits behind.

If young are present, we'll explain the situation, discuss the options available, and recommend the most appropriate course of action based on the circumstances.

Removal and Exclusions

Live Trapping and Relocation

Live Trapping and Relocation

A metal cage trap placed on dirt near a house wall.

Our goal is not only to remove skunks from your property, but to help ensure they don't return. We use one-way doors that allow skunks to leave their den naturally while preventing re-entry. Game cameras are used to confirm that all animals have left before final exclusion work begins.

Once the den is vacant, we install hardware cloth barriers to block access and reduce the likelihood of future problems. This approach provides a humane, long-term solution while helping protect your property from skunks and other wildlife.

Whenever possible, we use exclusion techniques to encourage skunks to leave naturally and prevent them from returning. In situations where exclusion is not practical or effective, live trapping and relocation may be considered as a last resort.

We use specially designed traps that allow skunks to be captured and transported safely, while always striving to resolve wildlife conflicts in a humane and responsible manner.
